The Maltepe Cultural and Information Centre is just 17 km from the city of Plovdiv, close to the archaeological excavations at the mound of the same name.
The Centre was built with European funding as part of the Maltepe Archaeological Complex. It reflects contemporary approaches to learning beyond the classroom, close to cultural and historical sites such as the Maltepe Mound.
Moгилата
Systematic archaeological research at the Maltepe Mound began in 2016, conducted by the Plovdiv Archaeological Museum team under the direction of Associate Professor Kostadin Kisyov. The excavations are expected to continue for several more years.
Educational Programme
The Maltepe Centre’s educational programme is closely connected with the history of the archaeological excavations at the Maltepe Mound.
Ceramics — the most commonly found type of archaeological artefact — form the starting point for every lesson.
Experience and Learn
Our aim is to spark children’s interest in ceramics—not only as an archaeological artefact, but also as an environmentally friendly material with great potential in modern life.
Our main teaching approach is experiential learning. Children learn by working hands-on with the material, and take home the things they have made as keepsakes.
